Clutch needs jamming to floor to start

Hey everybody ---

On a new to me '92 F150 (6 cyl., 5 speed, 120k miles), the clutch pedal needs to be jammed wicked hard down to the bottom in order to override the safety default and allow itself to start.

I noticed the amount of play in the pedal/shaft assembly was excessive, and have been told that it is a pretty common problem. First the bushings go, and then the holes in the bracket get a bit reamed, and that leads to the need to push down so hard to trip the switch.

My mechanic told me a new part from Ford would be pretty expensive (esp. once installed).

Is there a simpler fix for this issue?

And, if not, what of taking out this safety feature altogether by cutting a couple of the wires attached to the module attached to the bracket? Which of those wires are involved, and how would I get a cheap/free wiring diagram for this fine truck?

Thanks for any commentary or advice.

John

Which wire, Brice? I only looked down there once, and the truck's not at my house right now, but I remember seeing something like 4-6 or so entering a plastic box attached to the assembly on the gas pedal end of things? Am I missing something? Thanks!

Still looking for a wiring diagram for the truck.

Thanks again, man.

Check your local public library - some have Mitchell manuals which have wiring schematics.

Thanks for looking Brice. I appreciate your help.

This a neat forum. My first time here (but not my first F150).

Best,

John <<<these beers are for you....
