2001 V-10 misfire

I keep getting a random misfire code on my 2001 v-10 with 138,000 miles. It said cyl 1 so I replaced the coil in that cylinder. I am now on my 4th coil and expect the problem to come up again. The first replacement lasted about 2 weeks, and the 3rd coil lasted about a week. It takes some time before the code even shows.

Luckily the parts store has replaced the coils under warranty, but I don't think it's a coil problem.

Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

try the plug. If the gap is to big on the plug it creates a high resistance on the coil to jump the gap.. could be frying the coil.

oops, I forgot to mention that I already checked that. It was all correct and looked new still.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any other ideas?

I would try an injector sounds as though you may have one partially plugged or starting to fail. if you don't want to buy an injector, move it to a different cylinder and see if the miss fire moves to that cylinder.

Each time the COP is replaced it goes back to not missing for a week or two. Do you still think it could be injector? What about something in the computer?

The plug may *look* okay, but try a new one. If they are not OEM Motorcrafts, suspect the plugs anyway.

A friend of mine battled the problem for over a year, had it to two Ford dealerships. every time he got it back it would be OK for a month or more, finally installed an injector and the problem never came back. You may have a different problem, you can have a wiring problem between the computer and the coil or you can have a coil driver going bad in the computer. Changing the injectors will cost you nothing anything else will cost you parts that you may not need. You can move two injectors in less time than it took me to peck this message out!!!

Great advice. Thanks.

Who knows how computers are connected in these trucks nowadays...

I will try both of those suggestions.
