Check Engine Light

Came on yesterday in my 2005 f150. Just over 50000 miles. All seems normal. Water, oil and voltage gauges read normal. Runs the same. Is it worth my while to go to autozone and have the codes read? can you get codes out of the odometer? Seems some trucks you could do that with?

I would go get the code/codes read - it's free anyways ..

It's better all around to fix it quick.

If you can't notice any running problems its a emissions problem that is also covered up to 80k on repair. Let us know what the code is.

Had the code checked today...Code is PO506

Possible causes:
1. Vacume leak on engine
2. Dirty throttle body
3. IAC motor defective
4. poor electrical connection to the IAC valve

I added some gunk fuel injector cleaner today to the fuel tank and sprayed the throttle body with carb cleaner...The engine light is still on. IAC valve? Is that the one that controls the air intake? I have had a few hard starts... Fires and dies once in a while...

P0506 Idle Air Control System RPM Lower Than Expected

Replace IAC or Clean..

Remove - work mechanism inside w/hemostats or small pair of needle nose pliers. Use WD40 to assist..

I pulled up that code from this list - it's a SVT list , but it's been pretty damn accurate

okay so the throttle body isnt returning to idle strategy as its suppose to check the pedal wires and check operation of the throttle body. i know GM has a recall on their pontiacts for a problem like this where when the engine goes back to idle demand strategy for the throttle body it idles to high or to low. so the recall calls for replacement of the throttle pedal control servo

Any update on a possible cause to this code?

Hello,

We also have a 2005 F150 that is giving the same code. The truck has occaisonal erratic rpms. It will surge in rpms, then nearly stall out. Does anyone have an update on this? Reads PO506.

thanks in advance,
jackson

I've read that the PCM is incredibly touchy on your model, specially if you change up anything on the intake.

Most everyone I've read about with this code in another forum has just reset or rebooted the computer and the code did not return.

Good Luck
