5.4 capabilities

I have a triton 5.4 and was wondering why ford builds their trucks the way they do. It seems that every part that came from the factory (exhaust manifolds, intake, spark plugs, cats) all do nothing but make it quieter and "more efficient" but i pull of my intake and slap on a k&n and get 2 mpg better and 14 horses. What is their purpose of choking up the intake and exhaust out of the factory. When i first got my truck its was nothing special. Then i mod it out a little but and its doing 0-60 in 6 seconds flat and smoking tires like a muscle car. I know that these trucks are made for hauling hay bails to the barn and towing your boat, but what would be the purpose of limiting the power?

Why are you complaining? I put a drop in k&n filter and picked up 10 hp and my mpg increasesd to 25 on the highway. plus it gives u an excuse to mod your truck dude!!!

they didn't limit it so much as tune exactly where the bulk of it comes on. It's a torque motor...if high rpm performance was the goal the intake and exhaust would be different.

They are more efficient than you think...don't let the media convince you stuff that isn't true...

You CAN'T get 14 hp from a K&N filter only...Headers, exhaust, and Intake system...yes....But forget the extra 2 MPG...Myths...

Its a long read, but worth it. Check the 2nd post and the link in that post.

Id like to see some before and after dyno graphs too!
The most you get out of any of the intake/filter combos is 5 HP!

Ive only ran it on the dyno once and it game me 241 rwhp with a fipk, a custom superchip, motoblue coils, and 94 octane. thats all i can tell you im not going to rip my truck apart to prove 14 hp. The intake is worth it the torque gain is awsome. If your looking for horses buy a mustang. towing my boat is like night and day with the intake.
