97 5.4L Stalling

My father drives a 97 F150 with a 5.4L, and lately he has been complaining about it stalling. It happens mainly when you first start it up and it continues to stall until it warms up, but he said it also happens at red lights on occasion. I haven't noticed the CEL coming on the couple times that I've driven it, and he hasn't mentioned it, so I'm assuming that it's not coming on. Also, he's terrible about keeping up with regular maintenance. I think he went 7 or 8,000 miles between oil changes last time.

Anyway, I know pretty much nothing about these newer motors. Anybody have any ideas as to what could cause the stalling?

Edit: I forgot to add that it seems to be worse when the truck sits for a couple days without running.

Do a search here on the IAC [ idle air controller]. Very common problem on the Triton engines and alot of great info and pictures in this forum about it. If the IAC checks out ok start looking at the EGR valve.

Take it to Autozone and get it checked for codes. How many miles are on it?
