I was told by a friend that it would cost under $3000 cdn to remove, replace gaskets and heads and re-install. He got his under warranty and I swear they replaced both heads as well. A job for the DIY'r to save money. The heads on his were warped?? or twisted? they said, I think. Oh well, Ford picked up the tab so they coulda been chevy heads for all he cared.

Cool

HI!... If it's a '99' 5.4 made in WINDSOR than most likely it's the deck of the block not being square. Friends of mine that work at the FORD engine plant here in Windsor have told me that back in '1999' thousands of '99' 5.4 blocks went out with the deck heights not even clost to specs. Ford managment knew about it, but sent them out anyway. My '99' 5.4 had the heads and head gaskets replaced on it under warrenty 4 times due to oil leaks from the head gaskets. I asked them on all 4 occasions to check the deck height for squarness and they said they did and was within spec. Well when the engine finally blew I had the block spec'ed out, and the deck height was way off from spec. Somethimg like 20-30 thou. I've seen this on many 99 5.4 blocks.

My engine blew a spark plug out. The mechanic says I have no threads to hold the plug in the head. He has no idea how that could have happened. Any ideas?

Depending wich one blew out (usually 3 or 4) - You can fix without head removal.

Search it out. A mechanic did Fordgirls under $300..

Damn... $3000's a lot! Well how much would it be to replace the whole damn engine??

Seems like it wouldn't be much more..

And if an engine replacement was an option, is it possible to replace with a smaller engine? Now I have a 5.4....gas sucks!

Which one blew..

They have been fixed cheap before, you just have to find a mechanic outside of a dealership.

Cool

HI!... I blew a plug out of #2 cylinder on my old 5.4. Took JMC and I about an hour and a half to install a TIMECERT. Cost was about $60(CAN) and worked great. Still in the head at this time and that was over 3 years ago.

$3000 for a head replacement? WTF? That's highway robbery. I grabbed a set of heads off of a 03 Mustang GT for $400, and spent maybe another $150 for gaskets and what not. Did the work myself. Now when I checked Ford for a price for a replacement head, they said around $1300, so I walked out the door. If you're gonna spend 3 grand for some heads, might as well just fork out another grand or two and get a new crate motor to drop in.
