Ticking

Before I deployed, I noticed a rapid tick coming from the engine. It seems like it's more on the left than the right. It speeds up in relation to the accelerator, so I''m thinking it's a valve or gasket problem. Any opinions? The motor noise drowns it out around 10mph, so it's only an annoyance, but I hate to see lowered mpg because of it. What's the fix, and is it something I can do?
Thanks in advance.

I would also consider an exhaust leak.I had one in my 00' ford that i thought was a lifter noise but it started to get worse and one further inspection i found i had 2 exhaust manifold bolts broken..replaced works awsome

Someone else had mentioned lifters as well. To answer your question, I use 5-W30 most of the time, and am right around 106k. Wonder if a little Marvel Mystery Oil would do the trick.
