engine oil pressure
I drive a 2000 f-150 w/5.4l in it over the winter i had experienced no oil pressure on start up in the mornings. I had talked to my mechanic and mentor about it and also the local dealer and they had al said it was just the oil pressure sender and said is not too worry cause it would return pressure when warmed up and no engine noise. But this morning after it had stopped doing its thing for a about 3 months it returned but with a noticeable engine noise, this time it happened while i was driving. I am wondering it it could be a possible pressure regulator, or if anyone has noted oil pump issues before as this is a 11 hour job.I have also read that oil filters could cause a loss of prime int he pump due to drain back could this be the issue. NOTE this truck has 300k on it.please help me!!!!
I would say replace the Oil pressure switch/regulator. Usually not hard and pretty inexpensive. Give your truck a nice drain and fill it up with some 5W-30. That should be thin enough to help the new switch/regulator prime itself and begin to function properly.

300k???is that original miles?? no rebuild??. i would defineltely drop the pan and check out that screen. your rings must be so worn by now anyway. how many quarts are you burnung between oil changes??? use motorcraft or a similar quality filter. those cheapos have crap drainback valves etc..and cuse all kinds of problems.
I have been using Ams Oil Synthetic 5w-30 with a Napa Gold filters. And yes 100% original kilometers and NO rebuilds. Seems very strong still and burns very little oil..approx 1 liter per oil change which is well with in specs.I am going to replace the regulator and sensor first as they are the cheapest and easiest to do and i think i am going to try a different filter too and see how that does. this truck has also spent most if not all of its life in the oil field too.First as a MTC then a service truck.Never have been much of a Ford fan since the Body change in 1980 especially late 80's and early 90's but sin`ce driving this truck i have grown to enjoy it.

Well i just took a 2600 km trip with my truck it ran awsome...I was getting approx 650 km per tank which is the best it has ever gotten..and for the Dodge haters out there i was rippen it up through some of the worst roads in our area and whooped some ***..one was a 2006 Dodge hemi...hahaha..and the other was a late model 90's assuming 99-98 model...and they were no competion...not promoting road racing but i had to give the girl a work out and i dislike very much Dodges so it was awsome to find out that a truck with 300k km on it could whoop there ***...
I had also heard that the 4.6l is just as equal as the 5.4l in every way...please give me mor info on this if i heard wrong..and is the fuel consumption better..

I had the same problem with the oil pressure sensor as far as it reading 0 when you started it up after 12 hours or so. It was also noticably bad in the cold (what little cold we get in NC lol probably laughable compared to yours). It is a $5 U.S. fix...and takes about 5 min, just make sure you have an oil pan there it will drip a little bit. Should be no problem I did that with mine...congrats on the hemi beating!
