Electrical question 2002 Altima

A friend of mine had issues with his Altima this weekend. Filled up at a gas station and shortly after the car started chugging at higher RPM's. After dumping 7 bottles of dry gas in, the car ran a little better. Took it to a shop and found the battery with no water in it and a strong sulfur smell. Replaced the battery and drove it home 260 miles. Got home to a strong sulfur smell and found his new batter cooked. Not sure where the issue may be. Could it be a regulator in the alternator or between the alternator and the battery? Anyone expierience similar issues? Thanks for any help!

replaced the fuel filter. check the wire that goes from the alternator to the battery and check the grounds.

Will check, but could that cause a battery to boil?

Something is causing it to stick on full charge. It's either a bad ground or a defective regulator, which may be internal to the alternator.

The gas tank may need to be dropped and cleaned out.
