99 f150 leaking coolant. can't find source

Hi, I have a 99 f150 supercab shortbox 4x4 with the 5.4. Lately I have been smelling coolant but couldn't find a leak and not much was missing so i figured it wasn't a big deal. but the last few days I've noticed that after i shut the truck off it starts pouring from just above the cats (coming down each side of the heat sheild.) there is no leaking that i can find under the hood. i thought mabey heater core but wouldn't that leak inside? Well any help would be appriciated thanks.

Could be the coolant line that runs under the intake manifold. Maybe 'jbrew' will post his pix of it to let you see what and were you are looking. If he is going to charge you, have him put it on my tab.

My leak, that sounds the same as yours, was the rear of the pass side intake gasket. very hard to find!

My 99 F-150 with the 5.4L had the head gasket replaced. ( passenger side ) It's seems to be a problem with the 99's

If you're smelling it I'd say its either coming out of the exhuast, or as another poster mentioned, from the intake or head gasket and running down onto the exhaust casuing it to burn and thus smell. If a head gasket leaks but it goes into the exhaust you wont see coolant in the oil, but youll see or smell it from the tailpipe itself.

Smelly

My 99 had that smell for a while before i got around to it. It never left a mark but you could smell it when you got out. It turned out to be a broken spring clamp and the rad was weeping just enough to smell but no sign of it anywhere.
