And guess what the Ford Windstars have the same stupid setup. but they are not on the recall yet. Mine is leaking fluid into the switch so I unplugged it and have emailed ford and asked them when are they going to recall the windstars.....now we wait and see. And yes the cruise control quit....

Emailing Ford is likely a waste of bandwidth.

Go to www.NHTSA.gov and file a formal complaint. Enough reports will cause the gov't to call for a recall.

thank you, you are correct, they gave me a form answer saying that ford stands behind there product and that they will not recall unless the government tells them to....You would think they would be concerned about the leaking switch,,,,,,,,,,idiots.... I filed the complaint....

I have a real dilemma on my cruise control. My truck is 03 Screw that was made in 10/02 and I took it in for the recall. I was told that the recall did not effect my truck but I dont trust that. I have disconnected the cruise cause I park in my garage and would never forgive myself if my truck burned up my house. Maybe the recall will expand to my truck. It was made in the Missouri plant.

I have written 5 emails and the answer that is repeated in different ways is that if the government doesnt make them they dont care. So there is the Ford Corporate position on taking care of the customer. If that is there attitude than There will never be another Ford in my garage. I even worded it that you are a private company, selling to the customer, do you care about the customer, and basically was told nope, not unless the government makes us care.....so with that enjoy supporting a company that gives a rat #$$@ about you and your trucks.... Then they wonder why the competition is kicking butt.

by the way they dont replace it unless it is leaking, they add a fuseable link between the switch and the truck wiring harness. why doesnt Ford just put the switch under the dash like all of the other car companies....

You could buy the jumper harness Ford uses or make one with a fuse.

Ya, now im glad i got off my lazy *** and went to the dealership and got that recall taken care of before that happend to my truck....Speaking of recalls, my buddy told me that there was a recall for the rust that develops on the bottom lip of the doors. I have a 97 F150 with and extended cab. and you can see the rust on the outside of the third door in the back. Is this true what he is telling me?

This was an issue ford was fixing but i don't remember if it was a recall. I do remember it had to be pretty bad for them to fix it.
Same with the door cracks, Right side head leaks, rear slider glass leaking,

Are you sure it is a redundant switch? I believe it was used for cruise control...but, the switch on the pedal is only for brake lights....

Recall

I was in bed when mine caught at 5:21am. Thank goodness my neighbor gets up that early. She knocked on my door, I ran outside, there was smoke coming out my hood, I popped it, the flame was about 6" high and I just took off my shirt and threw it over then flame and snuffed it out. I had lived in the same house for 10 years and moved about a year before so the recall never made it to me. I called FORD and they REFUSED to help. I took it to the dealership, they called FORD and again, refused as I did not get it fixed from my recall. What is so messed up is the truck was stored for that year with the battery disconnected but they did not care one bit. Then, they send me a letter asking for a police report on the fire in December. The dealership saw it only melted the plug and the resevoir (slightly). They refused on the grounds I failed to get it repaired. What is even more ironic, they have sent me yet another recall in August (this year) for the recall yet again, but when I try to recoup my money, they yet again refused. Ergo, I replaced the switch myself but there is related electrical issues as the fuse blows every time I put one in. And as the heat is controlled by that fuse, and I live in Minnesota, I am going to freeze to my steering wheel, unless another fire starts and I burn up with my FORD! I am not even sure at this point what to do. But, the switch is disconnected and the fuse blows still so you never know. Maybe I will be just another statistic for FORD!

I have a 1997 F150 4.2L 6cyl manual. Ordered and received June 1996! Talk about hard to find parts, FORD can barely get me the right parts. I will NEVER order a new style vehicle again, and probably never a FORD either. Their customer service equals me bending over and looking for that axel grease.......

My 2000 F-150 burned to the ground this weekend. I bought it new and drove 294,000 miles and thought it was a great truck. It had been parked for six hours and burst into flames. Fortunately not near enough to house to catch it on fire. The cruise control stopped working a couple of months ago so that seems so that brake switch may be responsible. I don't remember ever getting a recall notice for that problem despite being original owner without change of address.
