Sluggish 5.4 liter

I own a 2001 F150 supercrew with the 5.4 and 75,000 miles on it. Over the last 10k miles, the accelleration has become very sluggish and boggy in the 1500 to 2200 rpm range. When I rhomp on it harder, it will perform better, however not to my satisfaction.

Here's another problem...I am burning oil. About a quart every 500 miles. Sometimes when I start the truck, a large amount of blue smoke comes out. During hard accelleration, I leave a smoke cloud behind me from 0-50 mph.

Please help, is this an easy fix or are we looking at major work here? Should I just trade her in for a new one?

I had the same problem with my '94 Ranger V6 back in 1998. Sluggish when going up hills, burning a lot of oil, smoke on start up and a bit of smoke every time I stepped on it. The engine didn't use a drop of oil until I put in synthetic. Within a 1000 miles of using synthetic oil, I was already down two quarts and smoking. Three dealers quoted me $1200 to fix it. Local Mom & Pop garages said $800-$1000. The Ranger had already eaten two transmissions, so I just gave it a good dose of trade on a new F-150.

sounds to me like your blowing oil by the rings...time to rebuild...$$$$
or time to upgrade to a lightning motor

Yeah, I was thinking that was the problem. I think I would rather trade it in now before something serious goes wrong. Alot of 0% financing now.

Now I have to convince the wife to get another F150. I will settle for an expedition....but she can forget about a minivan.

Any other opinions greatly appreciated!!!

You should look into this: www.auto-rx.com/pages/pov.htm

It cleans the engine and piston ring packs to restore its oil and compression sealing properties.
