are 5.4 heads interchangable with 4.6?

Im trying to locate heads for my 98 4.6 and i want a set of pi heads. I notice that some people are selling heads that will fit either one. Is there a differance in the heads. If i took a set of PI heads from a 5.4 will they fit on my 4.6?

^^^^^^ Good Site Twintips_17^^^^^^^

If you are looking for better performance, with less parts to find, you could have your NPI heads ported and polished. Port match and polish the intake and elbow that you have, and you are there. The PI cams will fit the NPI heads, and they should be very easy to come by.

Here's a link to Foxlake. They are good. Their add is for PI heads, but I believe the NPIs are the same.

You have to know where you want to end up, before you start on this trip.

What I've read is the 5.4 PI heads from 99 to 01 sohc are stamped with xl3e castings and 02 on up PI heads are 2l1e. And also some talk of some dowell pin being moved on the 02 head ???

Not 100% sure but you may want to double check due to differant valve sizes and combustion chamber sizes too ???

I have 3 sets of manifold gaskets - dowel pin locations are all different per set - theres a problem matching up my numbers - I have NPI remans installed by Ford in 2000 - warrantee work .

I just gave up on it..So when I replace the manifold gaskets I have to remove the pins - they don't leak , but I don't understand why they can't match my head numbers up with the right freakin gaskets.

They sure did move pin locations around ..

Way to throw a wrench in my plans....

I just cant win.

So back to square one....Just dropping the 5.4 in. That will solve all my problems and in the long run will be better. I know i will like it more. Just the pocket book wont.

Oh well power is money and money is power.

Cant have the power with out a bank roll.

Here's a tip when your unsure of things, put it out there in a confident way of thinking , if you know what I mean. You get more feedback that way.

When people are in a bad mood there less likely to help . If you make an assumption and it's wrong - they will sure as hell correct you..

Hey , it works!!
