Help with EGR housing

My mechanic friend checked my truck out when the check engine light came for the first time with over 99,000 miles on the truck. He determined that it was not a sensor but the housing that the EGR mounts to (he called it the throttle body) is carboned up which he says is fairly common for a 4.6 with around a 100,000 miles on it. Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to remove and clean this myself. My friend has his own shop, 2 kids, 1 ex-wife and a new wife with 3 kids and will charge me a small fee to work on it. He can't afford to do charity work. I would rather do it myself if I can. Any help would be great. I want to be sure this is something I want to mess with.

Thanks,
