Breaking it in?

I am going on a trip at the end of the month and my Lariat only has a few miles. Is it true it is not good to take a new car (truck) on a long trip (600miles total) when it's new?

you can take them on long trips, just very the speed, ie. 60, 65, 70 and back and forth the whole time. the engine runs at diff temps at diff RPM's, so if you ride at one speed (like with the cruise on) the rings will get set at a certain temp and you might burn oil later in the engine's life............with these newer engines i've heard they come broke in, but have never heard that from a dealer or anything.

Should be no problem IMHO.

Probably even good for it if your trip is mainly hwy miles and not a ton of stop and go, probably a great little break in run for her.

Those miles are gonna be on there eventually

I like FX41's idea of varying the speed a bit, nothing drastic but yeah it couldn't hurt at all, plus cruise control gets boring

Yeah just vary the speed and avoid prolonged idling and you will be fine

As painful as this sounds, dont use the cruise control. Thats the easiest way to ensure that you dont go the same speed continuously.

break in time with these modulars is considerably short. there is no cam break in like the old motors. why? rollers!

my engine builder even said when i build my 5.4 to just fire her up, give her a easy run and come home. check the oil make sure everything is seating and not ripping itself up, then i should be good.
