5.4L internals

Is there a kit that replaces the pistons, rods rockers, etc on the 5.4L to make it more efficent and reliable? With out supercharging the motor, what could i do internally to the motor to make more reliable power besides a cam shaft?

You can get custom pistons/h-beam rods, ect, but no luck on the "rockers"... (since the 5.4 is SOHC/DOHC)

you really wont make it more efficient unless you build a custom turbo kit. You could put a set of mahle pistons and eagle rods in it to make it a little more light weight and a lot stronger. Thats what I have in my new engine, check my gallery for pictures

5.4 internals

There are several companies that make stronger internals for the 5.4,Eagle makes an excellent lower rotating assembly, they are known for there "H" beam rods, dss racing .com also makes the lower end or you can get the entire short block from them.JDM engineering also makes internals for the 5.4 and they also build the entire short block. These pieces are expensive, how reliable do you want them?Hope this helped, good luck w/ your search.

my 5.4 i went with a strong bottom end combo, mahle forged pistons, eagle forged rods, ford racing forged crank, clevite 77 bearings. i sent my heads in to fox lake and had them ported and polished with comp cams 270ah... most expensive part was the heads.

5.4 already has a forged crank that will handle upwards of 1000hp. if u want just realiability but not wanting to boos it get some light weight forged I beam rods they are good for about 700-800hp and then get some forged pistons. nice set of rings and bearings get it balanced and it should last u forever.

Check out www.seanhylandmotorsport.com for stuff. Usually it lists for Mustangs etc. but you can get an idea on what type of stuff is available then get specific. They told me the last time I was there that a guy with a similar pickup just picked it up a day earlier that could run 11's or 12's, something like that. That takes more than just forced induction. www.teamjdm.com also I believe can accomodate you.

would you shut up dude. not all 5.4 blocks are forged cranks mr know it all. i think in 2002 or so they started mixing cast and forged. i dont even know what year they began mixing but they did around 02 somewhere.

so if your lookin at power, consider the cast can hold to 500hp, some can hold above that but most dont recommend using cast for over 500.

according to SHM and his write up about the modulars they tried cast cranks in 97 but they failed and shattered in testing so they went to all forged cranks.

Completely false. I don't even know if Ford knows the rhyme or reason for the application of their cranks, but there are absolutely cast cranks out there for the 5.4L after 1997.

calling bull**** again.

sean hylands book: " the 5.4-liter engine used a forged crank in 1997 and 1998 model years, and is still used in the navigator application. the regular SOHC 5.4-liter engine went to a cast crank in 1999, likely as a cost-saving device. the same power limit should apply with the cast 5.4 crankshaft as with the 4.6"

earlier in the article " the SOHC 4.6 is delivered from the factory with a cast iron crankshaft, which has proven to be entirely adequate for all applications up to 500 horsepower. in fact we have never seen a broken cast-iron 4.6 crankshaft nor to my recollection have i even heard of one coming apart."

so please, shut up unless you know for sure. dont state false facts. at least say "i think" so we know when to ignore you.
