FFV and Towing

Ok, I am looking to purchase an 07 XLT Crew 4x4 with 5.4L V8 and 3.73LS axles. From what I have seen, it appears that the 5.4L and 5.4L FFV (Fuel Flexibile for % ethanol use) have the same overall specs. I assume they both handle the same in terms of power and towing? Am I giving up anything by getting the FFV version? Thanks.

The FFV version of the motor will perform the same as the "regular" version when running on gasoline.

However, there will be a significant performance drop when running ethanol, and your MPG will take a hit as well. I wouldn't advise towing when running on ethanol, simply because you'll be in second at the slightest grade and seriously see MPG's in the 5-6 range with ethanol and a load.

So you're not "giving up" anything. Go for it if you want, but IMO the ethanol "craze" will fade away in a couple years, just like it did in the 70's. Another Al Gore inspired enviro-fad.

The dealer I purchased my 07 screw with FFV mentioned to me that the E85 might make the truck run rough. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm guessing pulling a couple thousand pounds behind you won't help any. ...for what it's worth.

Thanks for the responses. I did not set out to specifically buy an FFV capable F150 (couldn't even tell you where the closest etahnol station is), however it seems that more than half of the 07 5.4's on the dealer lots are FFV capable. A local dealer has a good match to the truck I want, with the only exception being an FFV. Dealer confirmed no performance difference between FFV and regular 5.4's when running normal gas.
