CAT's Split
CAT's Split
I just noticed my Cat split and is leaking on the passenger side. I can't afford to redo the exhaust - my cat back system is in great shape!! I was wondering if I could leave my pre-cats in place and cut out both cats out and replace them with regular 2 1/2 exhaust pipe for now. Will that work?
Thanx
Thanx
I guess Neal tried those and his didn't last a year - was that just bad luck or are they any good? Has anyone else had good luck with em?
Thanx Norm , I'll check them out - I don't think my motor would be as hard on them as Neals is ..
I just looked - Troyer wants $80 a piece , is that a good price?
Summit has some Dynomax Cats for about $56 , are they any good?

The question still stands - I really don't want to buy CAT's yet . I just tried some of that muffler mender sh^t , I highly doubt that's worth a hill of beans...If I by-pass the cats for now , what will I loose , torque maybe..??

Looks like I should of took your advice before and straight piped it behind the forward cat. I was going to do that awhile ago. Neal posted I would loose torque if I did that so
Now I've read that Built54 who has the same year truck as me - he gutted all his lol - he didn't end up throwing any codes .. I think all my cats are trashed - over 200,000 miles on them and there noisey as hell. I pulled the heat sheilds to see if the others were leaking - without the sheilds , there still loud, knocking and rattleing - it's like the damn things are communicating with each other
jbrew, you may have a CEL after you do that. That can be eliminated if it does by installing mil eliminators for the back 02 sensors.I think if you do lose any torque it would be hardly noticable.By cutting the back cats it should not have any adverse effects. With the 2 front cats and your cat back in place you should still have sufficient backpressure

Okay , I guess I'll spring for a couple high flows now - it's going to be a biatch trying to get the heat sheilds back on
- what should I do with the forward cats then, should I gut them , cut em out? Do I even need them with the high flows?

jbrew,i think what built54 means is that if you replace your 4 stock cats with 2 high flows you will not get a CEL and do not need eliminators? That is what everyone normally does cut them all out.The high flows eliminate the need for 4.
