both engines are more than capable for most anything you can throw at it. i have a 97 f150 and a 96 crown vic both with 4.6. not had one single problem with either of them. block and head wise. both are basically the same so.... 5.4 reliable as well.

The 4.6 has had fewer issues than the 5.4.

Fork me!

Where's Ruger ? LOL!

Oh, yeah ... NOOB: get the 5.4 or you WILL be kicking yerself afterward. These things are freaking HEAVY. You NEED the TORQUE.

The next thing you will need is a custom tune because stock the 5.4 still cannot get out of it's own way & either of them shifts terrribly.

neal will show up about the same time as faster.

i can show you eventually in the next month or 2 why 5.4's the way to go lol.

for now i can tell you why the 4.6 isnt. with 4.88 gears and 35" tires, (way lower than stock gearing.) i cant even powerbrake it, i can hardly pull myself out of the mud in 4lo. next motor will rip **** apart lol.

If you go with the 4.6 you have to use 5W30 Dino as opposed to 5w20 synthetic for the 5.4 because the tolerances are much tighter. No, really......they actually changed oil clearance from 99-00. Has nothing to do with CAFE I swear! The torqueier 5.4 were being destroyed do to the EXTREMELY thick 5w30!!! The death oil.

Also 97-2000 5.4 must use Mobil 1 and 00-03 must use Amsoil.

The 4.6 has 5,000 mile oil change intervals and the 5.4 has 7,500.

4.6 uses k & n and the 5.4 uses paper. You MUST not use paper in the 4.6.

You also must use a magnaflow exhaust for the 4.6 and flowmaster for the 5.4 due to backpressue and drone.

4.6 use carquest blue brake pads and the 5.4 uses motorcraft.

The 4.6 uses the SCT tuner and the 5.4 uses the Edge, Do not interchange the 2.

You have to use Dueler Revos with the 4.6 and BFG KO's with the 5.4.

The 4.6 uses Rancho shocks and the 5.4 uses Monroes.

I might be wrong but I think the 4.6 only takes a Skyjacker lift.

You need a special permit to own a 4.6 in Texas. Mr and Mrs. Patman should be chiming in soon on that one.

If you are supercharging, Whipple only for the 4.6 and Kenne Belle for the 5.4.
For the love of god man, do not mix the 2!!!!

Autolites for the 4.6 and 5.4 takes motorcraft. They are allegedly the same but I think its just a conspiracy.

Finally, and this is most important, ... the 4.6 takes an airaid intake ONLY and the 5.4 takes the Airforce 1.

Oh I forgot, the 4.6 uses regular air and the 5.4 needs Nitrogen in the tires.

Anymore questions?
