Help with Vortech Pulleys
Help with Vortech Pulleys
Hi Guys, new to this forum, but love it already.
Lots of great information.
Here's my question. I have a '94 Lightning with a Vortech Supercharger. We recently put the truck on a dyno and found slippage in the belts for the supercharger. When we could get the belts to keep from slipping, the power gains were remarkable. The rest of the time, not so hot.
I'd like to go to a more positive blower drive system, such as found on the BDS roots type blowers. I'm not sure what the pulleys are called. I think it's called a cleated pulley or cog pulley. Anyway, something other than the current V belt type of pulley that comes with the Vortech.
I called Vortech and to be honest, their tech department was not too helpful. I figured that they'd have all kinds of different drive pulleys for their system, but unless I got the new tech guy, this tech guy didn't come up with much to help me out. I basically asked him what type of pulley I'd need, which pulley ratio to run and what kind of boost that would provide. Apparently there are a ton of variables involved, and he was very evasive. No problem, I figured I could go out on the 'net and find what I was looking for.
Well, I guess I'm 'net challenged, because I can't really find what I'm looking for after a bunch of searches. I did, however, come across this forum, which was a blessing. I'm hoping that someone out there will come to my rescue and steer me in the right direction.
Does anyone make a positive drive pulley system for the Vortech blower system that I can install on my Lightning? I'd even be willing to go to something like an 8 belt V belt system if that was all that was out there. I'm hoping that if I can find a manufacturer, he can take a look at what I've got and give me a recommendation on exactly what I need.
While I'm groveling, let me ask you guys, has anyone else experienced this type of problem with their Vortech slipping under full throttle applications? Honestly, we tried everything we could do to tighten it up, and we were only marginally successful.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Can you post some photos? It will require creating a gallery, adding photos, and then including them in your posts. Or, do you possibly have photos posted elsewhere?
Here is a photo of a DIY I did. It is mostly a matter of pulling all of the parts together.

[/IMG]Educate me please. I have a 2000 F-150 Ex-Cab 4.6L in desperate need of some *****.
I had a Powerdyne, and modeled my set up from it along with an ATI tensioner, and idler pulleys from different sources.
