Do you have a check engine light? Have you done any maintenace in the last year; fuel filter, plugs,, wires, COPs ect..? Sounds like a possible COP going bad. As`for the bolt, I always go to Carquest.

Glad I found this post. However, what is a COP? Is it a coil pack? I have an '01 4.6 as well. If it is a coil pack, is there a way to test each one so that I don't have to spend $50 per coil? It doesn't do it all the time either however. Thanks for the help.

same problem here

I have a 97 4.6 that will sputter in the first 3 min of driving. After that it runs fine. The check engine light is on for the MAS but have replaced it and cleared code but it keeps coming back. Anyone had these same issues?

I have a 1998 f150 4.6 and had a stutter to it and the problem was a tiny crack in the porcelin of the spark plug. I replaced it and problem solved, check that first before coil pack. Just a thought hope it helps.
