hard starts

Does anyone else have problems with their 4.6's in starting? My '06 only has 8000 miles on it and hesitates way too much on starting for such a new truck. It;s been doind it since I bought it, but I wasn't sure if I'm just being too picky or what? It's almost embarrassing at times in the parking lot. I feel like I'm driving around in the "Sanford and Sons" truck or something. Thought about running a scan on it, but of course warranty won't cover it unless they find something...so I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone else has ever had this problem.

A likely culprit would be the fuel pressure regulator. If it isn't holding pressure, it will cause hard starting problems.

I know that my having a 97 truck is pretty far removed from your 05, not to mention 87K mile, but all that being said, I've actually been impressed with how well my 4.6L starts up with very little prodding.

I barely touch the key to the cranking position and it will catch and start up.

In other words, I'd have to TRY to be real fast with the key to NOT have it start.

I wouldn't be tolerating that with a relatively new truck that is under warranty.

Take it back to the dealer. If they say it is normal - go out to their used truck lot and sample half a dozen trucks similar to yours.

That's my two cents on the topic.

Good luck.

My 05 4.6 starts as smooth as silk. I would definitely have that checked.
