valve train noise?

i have a 2005 f-150 with the 5.4L. once it warms up there is a small clicking noise. my friend and i have tried and tried to determine what it is and where it is coming from. i have also asked at various garages and the only thing i have heard is that "it is just valve train noise, they all do it" has anybody else had this problem? if so do you know what it is?

they are right, they do all do it to some degree its the noise of the timing chains rubbing against the tensioners.

4.6
5.4
6.8
all have a common timing setup and all make the same slight ticking noise

A lot of that ticking noise is from the fuel rails, they’re noisy on 04’s and up

My '07 sounds like a powerstroke diesel when I'm idling in drive-throughs or next to highway barriers in traffic. My Dodge with the hemi was noisy, but it wasn't as loud as this. NO truck is quiet. My '02 F-150 4.6 wasn't too bad, but just about every newer truck I've been in including other mod-motor Fords and 4.8/5.3/6.0 Chevy/GMCs make a lot of noises that sound like valvetrain/top end or injector noises.
