You will need to reset the SRS system with the appropriate scan tool. That means a trip to a dealer or and independent shop that has one.

A Snap-On Solus is an example of such a scan tool. The ones under $800 or so won't cut it.

There is no way to reset the SRS system without the scan tool.

Try your local Mieneke. I have befriended the guys next to my house and they give me cash deals all the time on repairs. Additioanally they have a Snap on Solus, however it was more like $1400 and it will reset the code for you but it wont cost you the dealer price of $175.

Question

Wow, that kind of sucks. Replace your alternator yourself and still need a trip to the dealer. Sometimes Ford really pisses me off.

So, what creates this situation? I assume the system never loses power unless you disconnect the battery, regardless disconnecting the battery does not cause this issue.

I have to admit, I don't get it.

From the shop manual: Once 256 key cycles have been recorded since the concern was last detected, the DTC will automatically be removed from memory.
Start now and you should be done by Christmas.

Code 52 is Lost/Low Battery Voltage. The diagnostic monitor looks for batt voltage at connector 209 terminal 14 Red/White wire. If voltage at this terminal is intermittent or lost, monitor will flash code 52. Also check fuse #2 in power distribution box, left side of engine compatment.

If the battery voltage gets too low, like when the alternator malfunctions and you rely on the battery to supply all the power requirements, it will cause the code 52. So get it reset with a scan tool that can or cycle the key 256 times.
