Finally got brave and did it!! I'm proud.

Well, I finally did it! I changed my plugs and my COP's. Last fall I purchased new COPs off Ebay, the aftermarket ones, and OEM platinum plugs.

I was very reluctant at first as the very first plug I tried to remove seemed a bit tight. But with some very gentle persuasion, it came out.

All eight plugs were snug. Whoever changed them before did a good job and did not put any monkey love torque on them. It had Bosch Platinums installed.

I did however purchase an extra long 5/8" spark plug socket. Well worth the 8bucks. I made sure I blew out the plug holes with compressed air prior to removing the plugs. I used some anti-sieze on the plugs and some dielectric grease stuff on the COPs. I torqued all the plugs to 14 foot pounds.

Took me 3 hours, but I am confident I can do it a bit faster next time. Thanks to everyone who has ever posted anything about plug removal becuase I think I read every thread before I changed them today.

My truck currently has 92K.

Thanks for the comment.

Obviously with the people that have had plugs blowing out and cylinder head issues, I was not excited about changing them. But I have worked on cars for many years and have been in the aircraft maintenance field for 15 years, so I just used my mechanical skills and hoped for the best.

It is encouraging to hear that a first timer can muddle through the process in a comparatively short time without complication. I plan to change my COPs and plugs for the first time in the very near future. Hopefully I too will experience a trouble free removal and install.

Why would you change the COP when you change the plug? I have 220K on my truck, and all of the COPs (except #3) are original factory equipment. #3 would be as well, but it got blown up when the plug launched at 92K. Change the plugs if it is running poorly, only change the COPs if you know they are bad.........
