Got Police Interceptor Engine for 2000 F150
Police Cars
April 2007 issue of motor trend did a complete run down of the top three cop cars out there being sold.
2007 Impala - 2007 Dodge Charger - 2007 Ford Crown Vic (Stats in this order)
Horsepower
240Hp@5800rpm 340@5000rpm 250@5000rpm
245 lb-ft@2800 390 lb-ft@4000 297 lb-ft@4000
Curb weight
3740lbs 4248lbs 4385lbs
0-60 time
7.5sec 5.6sec 7.8sec
1/4 mile times
15.6 sec@91.2mph 14.2@99.4mph 15.9@88.1mph
They setup a track that was 4920ft with 14 turns and played cat and mouse with all three cars and two mild sports cars. A Mazda Miata (170hp) and a Mitsu EVO MR (286hp All wheel drive).
Results:
Ford Crown Vic - 105.14 secs - slowest car
Chevy Impala - 102.82 secs
Dodge Charger - 101.57 sec
Mazda Miata - 95.47 sec
Mitsubishi EVO MR - 93.07 sec
They basically said it was no contest. In just a few turns the Miata dusted the 340hp Charger and at the end of the lap it was 6 secs behind, the Impala was trailing by 7 and the Crown Vic by 10 secs. Against the Mitsu the gap was more than 2 secs greater. The even tried using a BMW R 1200 police motorcycle to catch the cars and it did close the gap some but they still couldn't keep up with the Miata. They did go on to say out on the open highway that the Charger with a top speed (electronically limited) to 145mph would reel in the Miata.
Then they added the comments "As the old police saying goes - There isn't a car in the world that can outrun a Motorola"

Meanwhile, back ON-topic...
$500 for a 68Kmi 4.6L is a good deal, but the car cam is wrong for the truck's needs. And just to be sure everyone knows: "PI" (Police Interceptor)on the car is not the same as "PI" (Performance-Improved) on the engine.

HI!... Sorry to break it to you but with your F-150 PCM running that used engine and installing the stock truck intake manifold you will basically have a stock 4.6L truck engine rated at 231H.P and 290FT/LBS of TQ. Probably a bit less due to the nature of the vehicle the engine came from. You certainly will not have 250H.P.
chevy made a mistake stopping production of the old caprice 9c1. crown vic had nothing on that thing. they could have squeezed more power out of that 350 and make it pass emissions.
But the 96 was just plain fast. But what a boat. I didn't like the handling at all.
But the 97 CV handled so much better, it just felt safer dispite having less power. But the Top speed on the CV was actually as high as the Chevy. 137. Just alot slower 0-100.
The caprice 9c1 was the bomb!! I had the pleasure of owning one at one time, and the LT1 was awesome. I know for a fact that the caprice was a far better police cruiser than the crown vic. The handling the power, it was great. Now if ford would give the crown vic police cruisers the 5.4 and make the car handle better, then they'd have something. I had to get rid of my 9c1 because the computer started dumping too much fuel into the right bank of the motor, so with no money or time to figure out what was wrong, I parted it out and kept almost everything. I now have a 96 Impala SS and guess what it has....all the police spec stuff on it, so not only does it look awesome, it is a total police car under it.
Here is my opinion of the battle btw chevy and ford..... if you want a fast and perfect handle cruiser, but have a million oil leaks, get the chevy.....
If you want a reliable cruiser that will be as dry and non leaking as the day you got it, get the crown vic haha

people i talked to always said the lt1 350 had a weak bottom end. i never had a problem with my 95. only problem i had was with that opti-spark setup. i think everyone with lt1 had that problem at one time.

neal IF he adds a supercharger or a turbo he can achieve his goal
Bottom line is all these cars we're talking about are junk, IMO. Heavy and Slooooow.
If you want a fast good handling sedan... you'll be looking at Benz, BMW and the new Pontiac G8 is going to be one wicked sedan.. I'm a ford guy at heart but the G8 is going to be once nice a$$ American made sedan. And it's about time someone did it. http://www.pontiac.com/g8/
LT1 = junk. Older Impala SS were turds. There hasn't been a good American made sedan that I can think of. BMW and Benz have been making stormers for years that would hand any American made sedan their ****. The C32 AMG makes 349 hp/332 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm with a V6... back in 2001 it tested 0-60 in 4.5 secs and was electronically speed limited @ 155 mph. What American sedan could even come close to this in 01? Nothing that I can think of.
Ford REALLY needs to step it up in the sport sedan department and stop making GT500s that stealer's mark up 20k. Sure it's cool, but, maybe they should spend more time making a powerful sports sedan that the normal power mongrels would buy.
The last sedan that had any power was the Taurus SHO... which to me was still a slug and UGLY. What Ford needs to do is throw a aluminum blocked 03 Cobra motor in a sedan then we'll be talking.

I'm convinced the 4.6 is the best V/8 Ford has ever made, I'm still a 5.0 and 5.7 windsor Fan and I will defend the older V/8 till the day of the forbiding dawn.
I hate the 5.4 and ya I now the 4.6 and 5.4 are basicly the same ( modular design ) The new Explorer is pushing close to 300 H/p and is a lot lighter than the crown vic and a lot of law enforcement is going to the Explorer due to the 4wd in bad wheathier.
GM had reasoned that the RWD was out of date and thier truck SUV would replace the Impalla.
The only reason the Crown vic is still arround is that the car is Identical to the Town car and Ford has a cheap dependable chassis to mass market.
The crown vic is a mobile office for big cops over 6ft Tall, the new charger is a lot quicker but lighter and smaller on the inside, and has no large frontal area for Pit manovers.
Your basic jap 4 door sedan can out perform a crownvic, which is true on the track, in the real world, the cheapest, most depenable, crashable, rebuildable, biggest car times the number in the fleat will win.
Ford has the 500, this would make an excellant police package with AWD and a cobra inspired 4.6, Ford could easily adapt this package, the 500 as is is the a Dog..

Yes, It will have 250hp, infact over 300hp when I buy some of the extra goodies that will be put on. The car came stock with 235, and with the f150's bigger intake it will give it more HP and torque. It will not be stock, it will have a whole lot more power with these PI heads. I can easily get 300 HP out of this motor with a good filter and some headers and some other goodies. I will update when we get the motor In. I have just stripped the intake off the PI motor and am going to Install the F150 intake soon, and other parts, replace a few seals and put her In and get a quick truck.
