Opinions on oil

My truck has recently gone out of warranty so i wont always be getting it serviced at the dealership anymore. Because of this should i purchase motorcraft oil or are the other brands just as good. What brands do yall recommend.

Also i have heard that it is not worth it to soend the extra money for synthetic oils on a low mileage vehicle.

Motor Oil

Hey...

I have 251,000 km (157,000 miles) on my '01 and am still uing the original 5w20. I have been using valvoline 5w20 and have had no problems what so ever. I get my oil analyzed every second oil change and everything shows awesome. Hope this helps.

Yeah , here we go again - this has got to be some kind of record

Castrol here 5w 30, 50/50 . My 5.4L is the most solid thing on my truck with no burn and great compresion @ 216,000 miles.

I'm not saying it's because of the oil I use , but just in case I'm sticken with it - I've always changed out the oil @ 3000 miles ..

I prefer synthetic oil. I use either Amsoil or Royal Purple, sometimes Mobil 1 if it is on sale. My most recent report from Blackstone lab stated that the TBN on 5w20 RP was 9.6 after 3500 miles. i.e. the oil still had plenty of life to go much longer. I've been running synthetic since 3800 miles in my F150 and about the same in my wife's Odyssey.

I noticed that the dealer sells full synthetic 5w20 Motorcraft now also. I think it is $5.50/quart. If it is, or every becomes available in the 5 qt. containers, it will most likely be considerably cheaper, especially if found at WalMart.

You can get a 5 qt. container of Mobil 1 there for about $22. plus a Motorcraft filter for just over 3.00. So for roughly $35 you can go probably 9000 miles on one oil change. Not bad.

I pay $6.75/quart for RP and about the same for Amsoil.

Just my preference.

Hey austinbf150, search around a little and you'll find a solid day's worth of reading at least on this subject.

Basically you'll find supporters of whatever you want to do, there's camps for using 5x20, 5w30, dino, synthetic, changing at 2000, 3000, 5000, 10000, 15000 miles, amsoin, mobil1, castrol, halvoline, etc.

I would continue with what you are using. If it is not burning oil, if there are no problems, then why change. Mine has been out of warranty for a while and I still get it changed at the dealer with 5-20 Motorcraft.

I used to get Valvoline oil in Napa bottles with a Wix filter in a Napa box, I never had a problem with it. However Wal-Mart finally started stocking Motorcraft 5w-20 so when I get my last case used up it will be Motorcraft oil and Motorcraft filter. It is a little cheaper pricewise and is a synthetic blend.

For those who are tired of seeing "the same old topic" asked by new members or even old ones, grab your little mouse in your right hand and MOVE ON!!! REMEMBER, WE LIVE IN AMERICA, THE LAND OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND FREEDOM OF CHOICE!!! If you become agitated by the same old topics, go do something else, like change your oil.
