Okay Now

i have read about a thousand threads from a serch and in this forum regarding engine noise. My eyes hurt and still have no clear idea what this could be.

I have a 2000 Expedition with a 5.4 in it that, upon start up, runs fine no noise. When I put it in gear....and run it up to 1500 or so RPM the noise starts...ticking/rattling then goes away after a little bit 20 seconds or so. It does this mostly on the first start of the day but lately has been starting to do it during every startup. After it goes away it wont do it again until startup.

Oil is 5/20
Mileage 78,000

Could someone please post some ideas?

Are you sure it's in the motor ? Because the heat sheilds around the cats will do that as well.

It's usually more of a chirping sound tho.

You know what? I just am not sure. It will do this parked and revved as well but I'll have to recruit the Queen Bee to rev while i listen. Thanks for the info though.

Ford posted a TSB on the cat guards making noise and they posted a fix with band clamps .
