K and N filter worth it.

I was just wondering wuold it be worth it to get the k and n filter for my 79
f150 460 truck. Like would i notice any improvments over just a mid grade filter from part source or w.e. What i liked was the life time warranty. But just thought id ask casue lots of u guys have experimented with all of these things.

Depends on how much longer you intend to keep the truck. Running.

Life time warranty won't mean much if you only plan to keep her a couple more years. Not a wise investment.

Improvments performance wise? Nah....

If it was mine, I'd just change out with a new one every 15K miles or so.

Not worth it, it let too much dirt past the air filter in both my older F150 and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Both were OEM Drop-In K&N filters. I thought they fitted too loose in the airbox, and found dirt/dust past the filter in the intake tube. A Blackstone oil analysis shown a high amount of dirt in my oil!

After going back to the OEM paper element, everything returned back to normal.

Unless your car is setup for pure performance were power is more important than longevity, I wouldn't use a K&N filter.

The only reason to get a K&N filter by itself is so you dont have to keep buying ones. I replaced the stock type filter on my 99 with a K&N and didnt have any problems, and probably more than paid for itself when you consider how much a new filter would cost all the time-and I would have been replacing it a lot with the roads I drive on.

Power wise it will do nothings. 1.24 HP maybe

No measurable power or efficiency increase, but as stated above, saves a lot over its life in replacement filter costs. I have 46,000 miles on mine, clean it about every 15,000 which is probably too often. Never had a problem. Just take care not to over oil when you clean it.

He said it was a '79. Carberated, I bet.

Doubt that a little too much oil on his airfilter's gonna screw up the...er...air meter thing.

Does K&N even make a filter for that year and model? Has to be one of those doughnut filters doesn't it?

I have a K&N in my 97 F150 4.6. I am the third owner of the truck and back in 98 the original owner installed the filter. I don't know how many miles have been put on since the filter but the truck has over 200k miles and is still going strong.

Just to point out, I got nothing against K&N airfilters. In fact, I use 'em on couple vehicles and have over 200K miles on'em. Problem free. Cleaning them has never presented a problem for me.

'Course, I've got well over a million miles on Fram filters(air, oil, and fuel) and some of these guys continue to point out how worthless they are.

Got to watch the advise given sometimes.

It's worth it just so you can say you have a k&n filter.

Actually yes, I would get one just because of the fact they are reusable and better quality then an oem type filter.

Fram Filters absolutely BLOW!! There I said it , thanks for the opportunity

Have you seen them cut open in comparison tests - How cheaply there made ?

I tried one of there fuel filters once when I couldn't get a wix or a Motocraft at the time and mannn did I regret that the next time it was due for a change . That damn fram wouldn't come off - I never had this problem with a Motorcraft filter.. Fram SUCKS !!!

just use a paper filter they're cheap and even if the K&N gives 10 HP that's not noticable on a truck that heavy
