Exclamation Saving An Engine

Hey guys,
I've been reading through the forum and I've seen that a few people have blown their engines from running lean systems. I have the Edge Programmer, CAI, and TBS which after doing so I've gotten the codes for bank 1 and bank 2 being too lean. I've uped my WOT fuel to run a little richer than stock, but just curious if I need to worry about ruining my 5.4 also? Any help is always appreciated.

By upping your WOT you are only increasing fuel at that point. The edge can not make up for adding parts that can make the engine run leaner except at WOT.If you are refering to the problem i have been having i'm still working on figuring it out.I think i found my problem I will let you know if it works. Is your motor bogging?

I'm actually not having any problems with my engine at all. I just noticed a few threads on here with guys stating that you can damage your engine if it's running lean and that it's a major NO NO to clear the DCTs. I'm just trying to keep from ruining what I have going now.

my 4.6 has the lean codes. Annoying as *** to say the least because I have been chasing them down for two years. I have 4 brand new cats, new exhaust, all new plugs, new MAF, new DPFE, EGR Valve, EGR regulator, K&N filter with factory exhaust.
Cant fix the bitch to save my life.
Truck runs great
I get 250 on a tank of gas around town, 400 on the highway and I drive 70 with ac on
whatever

Holy Crap, Kevin!

Don't keep us in suspense!

For Coastie: the only way you will know is to go have it datalogged, with A/F's, at a dyno facility.

MGDfan,i have been looking into fuel pressure on my truck.I have 40psi at idle on the fuel rail.I disconect the vaccum to the regulator and it stays the same.As far as i know the psi is supposed to go up when i disconnect vaccum line to the regulator.I am hoping i have a bad regulator.Edit dammit, i replaced the regulator.Still have 40 when i pull the vaccum line, there goes $85 and yes i have vaccum going into the TB elbow. WTF I don't know,if someone has some advice go for it.my haynes manual sucks!!!What next replace the fuel pump or maybe i have a fuel line restriction?

MG: Where can I get my truck datalogged, and what is A/F's? I'm not sure of any dyno facilities around me in S. Jersey, so how would I go about looking one up beside google?

Also, I never had any lean codes until I installed my CAI and TBS. I had them for about 2 weeks before I got the Edge. I've read in several places on this forum that a TBS is just a paperweight. Do you guys think if I got rid of that the codes might go away?

I would say its your CAI making it run leaner by pushing more air into your motor.
Forgot to add your TB spacer is a POS=piece of s^^t , throw it out or give it to someone you don't like.

Hi.

Try http://www.dynojet.com/dyno_centers/...ive/index.aspx and search for a facility nearby.

And/or ask in the regional area of this forum for a good shop. Make sure they are familiar with, & can handle a F150 - some aren't / can't /won't.

Figure $75-$100 for three dyno pulls with all the data.

A/F's = air/fuel ratios - the stuff you are concerned about. A good shop will know what's safe.

Good luck.

The shiny pipes people use for "CAI" are not pushing anything extra into the motor. They can sit on the shelf next to the TB spacer as far as I'm concerned.

A N/A motor pulls what air it needs, when it needs it, by itself.

Let me rephrase that for you. With a proper CAI your motor will be able to take in the air it wants better. This in turn yields better power, how much depends on design and filter.Maybe you have bought the wrong one in the past and have had bad results. You can and will make more power w/ CAI on a n/a motor, not a lot usually but enough to make it worth while depending on design.
Have a nice day

I will plan on taking my TBS off this weekend then. I wish I would have known about this forum before I bought it...LOL. Do you think if I changed the MAF possibly I could get rid of the code for good?
