Limp Mode

Does my 97 5.4L have limp mode? If so, how does the engine shut down 4 of the 8 cylinders? I had a problem (gear turned on one cam) and had new cams installed (not at Ford) and now the mechanic is telling me that the cams are defective. There is no compression on 4 cylinders, the back 2 passenger side and front 2 drivers side. Is it possible that he did something stupid and activated limp mode? HELP

You have confused HLOS (limp mode) with failsafe cooling operation.
