I would bet you $50 that it is either a vacuum leak or a bad IAC valve. It's most likely a vacuum leak. Find it.

I've read your threads and you seem knowledgeable - like most on this site - so I'll check for a vaccuum leak, then/and replace the IAC. Thanks everyone for all the good info. I'm lovin' my new (new to me, anyway) truck, and I'm also having a lot of fun learning how to do small fixes. Hopefully some day I'll be able to do most anything on my own - just because I want to. I've never been shown how to do anything on a car/truck until I bought this truck, now you all help. THANKS!!!

80,000 miles... Unless you lucked up and got some bad parts, there's probably nothing physically wrong with the fuel delivery system. But I am no expert. I have had idle problems in my truck SEVERAL times, and my father's truck too, and ALL of them were attributed to vacuum leaks, throttle body, and IAC problems. Mostly vacuum leaks. Judging by these other guy's posts, they obviously have had other problems with their trucks. Try all the suggestions, but start cheap, (searching for vacuum leaks is free) and work your way up. Let us know what was the problem!

Klitch was right about the elbow, it likes to rot off. I've had that problem, and that's the first place I'd look.

I re-used all my gaskets when I took my intake system off, and it seems to be sealing up fine, but I might have gotten lucky. Mine was full of dirt,(local shop replaced my alternator and didn't hook the intake pipe up right) but had no deposits, goop, buildup etc.

I'm gonna check out that elbow. If it's cracked or broken, just replace it with another? Would it just be a typical auto parts store part?
