computor replacement?

I recently had to have me computor replaced on my 99 f150 4.6. truck was running great even at well over 200,000 miles Darned thing would not pass emissons because I was told the putor would not "communicate" with the emissions machine. I tried two different testing stations witht he same result.

Anyway I was wondering if any one else has run into this problem? Or did I just fork out 1100.00 dollars for nothing?

I believe you've been robbed.. you should have tried several inspection stations, or taken it to another county.. plus I think counties with emissions tests are required to offer to let you sign a "hardship" waiver in the case of it not passing and them saying you need a $1100 chip..
You're '99 even with 200k isn't a mosquito fogger, I'd hope.. should be able to find someone who'd give it a pass..

If the truck runs ok and there are no codes set, I have my doubts the PCM is defective.
I would check for 12 volts on pin 16 (possible blown fuse) on the DLC service port and for bent or pushed back pins preventing communications from taking place with the emissions test gear.
Many places just use the PCM as a test for pass or fail since 1996.
The PCM and it's program along with the engine hardware is better than a sniffer.
All this test does is check for codes, pending codes, and that all PIDs are complete (no P1000 code). Same as a high level Scanner.
Here in PA, that's all that is done along with a fuel tank gas cap test.
In some hi polution areas they do the roller test in addition.

no Kiltch...emissons reqire plugging into your obII port now...Tex I was under the gun so to speak...could not re regiester without it passing...It started with that danged code p1401...ithink thats it...(egr flow insufficent)...I have my own code reader and put a new egr valve and tinkered with it for two weeks on my time off...but I finally gave up and put it in the shop...something I almost never do...They had the truck for 4 days try to figure it out. I tried running it through the drive cycles my self but it would never complete the test so i assumed they were being honest with me... I just wanna know if this is a common problem out there with our fellow f150 pepole. Truck does seem to run smoother now though but that could be I was haveing to drive my back up ford aspire for a month...lol.
Thanks for the reply guys

A 4six with those miles is almost a sure bet your ports are clogged inside the TB elbow, that would do it..I would take it off and clean..

It also sounds like you could need a new DPFE sensor. Ford updated these very recent , A new one can only be acquired at the dealerships as far as I know.

I'm guessing you had a PO401. 1401 = DPFE (Specifically)

http://www.svtlightnings.com/scantoo...tc%20codes.htm

Heres the old # - they can crossreference at the dealership .

. Pressure Feedback Sensor
. F77Z9J460AB
. $103.38

Good Luck

Bluegrass probably nailed it! Blown fuse happens all the time.
Most inspection stations around here know about that one.
