Yeah - A little something for everyone. I mis-spoke on the 20-W-50, though. It is 15-W-50 (and I should know better, as I have it in my 5.0 Mustang).

You will be going yourself & most of all, your truck good w/ Mobil 1 5w20 with Motorcraft Filter, another 600mi, I will be running that exclusively when I hit 3000mi, then every 5k per warranty! After Warranty a little bit longer!

Thumbs up

Quick oil change question. I am getting ready in a few hundred miles to do my first oil change on my 07 SCAB. I just did a recon of the area around the filter and I have the cup filter wrench already, I do not anticpate any issues removing the filter for the first time.

Looking at the plastic oil catch tray under the filter, it looks like instead of the oil running down the tray and into the bucket, it will pool in the tray first until it over fills the upper portion of the tray first, then it will overflow and then run doen the tray into the bucket.

Needless, to say it looks like once the oil is finished there will still be a pool inside the tray that will have to be soaked up and removed. Seems to me this is going to be just as messy as letting the oil just run down.

What do some of you do when you do your changes? Did the oil in fact pool in the tray and was it exessively messy? Any tip and or tidbits will be appreicated.

Thanks

I just changed mine otday. I got royal purple because it was cheaper than mobil one, and it is supposed to rock. Also got a purolator filter because most oem and aftermarket filters are made the same. Just cheaper for me.

Let me rephrase this:

Does the oil in fact pool in the tray and then drain down the tray, and was it exessively messy? Are these trays just on the 06-07 F150s and are they that handy or messier? I'll find out in a few miles or so .

Order them from JD. You have the part numbers right in your face.

TY24773 for the filters
TY6364 for the oil.

The oil is pricey for dyno... $2.10 or $2.20 a quart for 10w30
The oil filters are cheap... around $2 a piece.

The 5w30 was VERY expensive. They had to ship it from maine, or minnesota or somewhere like that. They didn't have ANY in the south east. So maybe its cheaper up there.

I figure if they will allow you to extend your drain interval from 100 hours to 350 hours and still retain the factory warranty then it must be some purty good oil.
