Yes, patman suffers blind devotion syndrome, but the 4.6 is a great engine. It'll do very well on the road, it can tow arouund 5000 lbs. comfortably, and I would think it should be an adequate engine off-road provided it matches your driving style, if like taking your time and crawling slow, then no...If you drive like a crazy man offroad and never lift off the throttle, it will be fine.

Also, what do you plan to do with it, are you gonna lift it, put on 35s, etc. then, you might want to consider the 5.4, just ask Klitch. From what I've read searching way back to 1999, putting 4.10 gears with stock tires, is one of the best mods to make to the 4.6, it improves acceleration, throttle response, and fuel economy with driving conditions under 75mph. I have a 3.55LS that I plan to do the same mod to this summer, it should help my little 4.6 when towing, anything over 5000 lbs. and it starts to feel like a turd.

Hope you get that smoking deal on the 4.6

Cool

HI!... If you can hold out for a 5.4 then do it. My father had a F-150 with the P.I 4.6L. That thing couldn't pull itself out of a wet paper bag. My buddies 4.2L F-150 would spank it's butt. Go 5.4L or go home.

4.6 is a great motor. they put those in the cruisers. i know its different rear gears etc... but it can take a hell of a beating and keep going. 5.4 is reliable as well so...

The 4.6 will do just fine. It has plenty of power, it tows fine for me. I did drive a 2003 Lariat with a 5.4 and that thing run like a scalded dog. It was a huge difference in that. But I think my truck looked better and thats why I bought it instead. I haven't drove an 04+ with a 5.4 so I don't know the difference in them.

You don't see anyone swapping out a 5.4 for the 4.6 for more power in an f150 do you???

Hasn't this been covered already in the other thread?

I love my 4.6 and I guess I have the same syndrome as Patman, but I tow my mom's horse trailer w/ it and have no problems! Never had a major problem with it for the 12k miles more i have put on it as well. It has 69k now, running strong as ever. I have driven a 5.4 loved it, but it was more of a Pig, very good for towing (my moms expy has it) but I prefer my 4.6...it runs like a raped ape. Looking to get a bit more power, gonna go with a CIA, headers, and new exhaust system.

Thing is, your truck is probably 1K to 1200 lbs. lighter than a new Screw. I had the 4.6 in my '97 XLT Scab. It was great around town. Towed two jet skiis ok, unless I was on a long uphill, then it sucked. Wouldn't even think of it in my '04 Lariat. Truck w/tonneau cover is probably just over 6Klbs. full of gas. Original ? was about an '03 Screw. Still about 1Klb lower than a new style Screw. It'll be OK, but that's about it.

I dont know what crawled up your *** and bit your prostate but you need to chill out. I wasnt ******* the 5.4 so dont start crying. All i said was as simply as possible the 4.6 will do everything the 5.4 can do. F150s dont have a lower payload, or lower towing rating for the same configuration truck when you compare 4.6 to 5.4

One more stupid imature comment from you and you will be able to hang out with KC-10 FE on my ignore list

HI!... In my F-150 brochure it states :

F-150 4.6L 4X2, 6.5' box, PAYLOAD = 6050LBS.

F-150 5.4L 4X2, 6.5' box, PAYLOAD = 6300LBS.

Difference = 250LBS.

MAXIMUM TRAILOR WEIGHTS :

F-150 4.6L 4X2, 6.5', box = 7200LBS.

F-150 5.4L 4X2, 6.5', box = 8300LBS.

Difference = 1100LBS.
