anyone know where the negative d.i.s. located on 98 4.2l in reference to installing a sun pro tach?

 

There is a pink and white striped wire going into the instrument cluster. Pull the ref signal from that wire. It is in the flat white connector with 16 slots. There should be only 14 wires in the connector. 2 slots are not used. The other connector has 12 slots with 7 wires so it is not difficult to tell them apart.

thanks, but i cant locate the pink and white wire. is it going into the power distribution box in front of driver's side??

 

No, it is behind the instrument cluster. Pull the cluster to access the conector.
