'04-up Gas Mileage.....

I searched this forum and couldnt find much on the new body style mileage. I am fixing to start driving more with my new job and have considered a new truck, what is the mileage you guys with '04-up 4x4's? with the 5.4 preferrably.

I get around 15-16 mpg on average. Thats when im pretty light on the gas. If you have a heavy foot you'll probably see around 12-13. This is on an 06 xlt 5.4 Screw with the 6.5ft bed.

Just figured mine last week. 16.8 with a 50/50 mix of city and highway miles.
When towing a 10' trailor and mower for about 3 days during the week, it's around 13-14 mpg.

You didn't search THAT hard. Search by mileage or fuel. Subject gets aired almost daily. That being said, '04 Screw, Lariat, 4X4. Mostly 12 around town. Avg. 16 on a 300 mile trip with overall altitude change of sea level to 9000'. Level freeway, 75mph, can average as high as 19. Since I finished child support, gas still seems cheap!!!!!!

Wasn't trying to dig ya.... I've just seen a lot of threads about mileage lately. That and unexpectedly poor stock performance ( fixed w/a tuner). Which if you do get a new truck, make room in the budget for a tuner. It's really a must-have. Search all of the forums, that might be why you only got a few good hits.....

My brother picked a new 07 4.6 4x4 super cab 3.55 rear. He has under 2k on it so Id say it will still improve. His last tank he got 18 mpg. 70/30 highway, city. He was happy anyway.

You don't know what you're missing. Mileage likely won't improve, but performance is greatly improved.

Mine isn't a 4x4, but typically I average around 17-18 mpg on the highway, 14-16 in town. At best running highway speeds, I've gotten up to 20-21 mpg. Towing, it dips down to 11-12 mpg or so. This is an '04 4x2 Scab with 3.55 gears and the 5.4 3V.
