Would you by another FORD TRUCK ?
Hell yes!! I like twoblocked, I was raised in a ford family. Dad has always had a ford vehicle, had mustang, rangers, f-150, my mom had a contour, taurus, now a escape, sister has escape, i had a escort, ranger, and now my awesome F-150. My uncles, aunts, cousins all have fords.
No, not until Ford steps up to the plate and improves their quality of parts. The engineering is fantastic, nice ride, well handling, heavy duty, but..... Common, spark plugs, rear end problems, tranny problems, electrical problems, injector problems, crappy brake rotors, there is no excuse. You know years ago the Japanese whom love our cars would buy them and then put in counterfeit parts that were more reliable. Why does corporate america so darn greedy to grab a part that is cheaper to make their bottom line. Give us a quality product and the folks will stay and follow forever. I know a lot of people are die hard Ford, General Motors, or Chrysler fans, but until they own something that is really reliable, they will never change. Quite frankly I have wrenched with the best of them, but when I go somewhere I dont want the darn thing to break down and cost me a fortune to get going again. My trust and faith goes down the toilet real fast when that happens. Hey worn consumables are one thing, but not plugs, injectors, trannys, or axle and brake problems on a new under 20k miles vehicle. Wake up and smell the roses. I love the darn thing, but am quite dissappointed with the failures. Reminds me why I bought all those foreign jobs over the years.

It's great to have choices. Regardless of what you choose to drive, I hope you have good luck with it
I am a subscriber to consumers reports, and historically the numbers dont jibe with reliability.... If 20 percent of a million are failing that is still bad. If 1 percent is failing of 100k that is still very good. I have found from experience with my vehicles and all my friends, that consummers reported reliablility statistics are very darn close to being right on. After all they are composed by owners of the vehicles...
Point taken on the percentages.
However, anything can break on any vehicle. Some people have very good luck, others don't. There is no science behind that. I am one of the lucky ones. In all my years of owning Ford's, I have never been stranded...not once. I have only had my vehicles in for non-maintenance service 6 times. No trans failures. No engine failures. No suspension failures...you get the point. Just mainly little things...a rattle here, a loose piece there.
Again, choices are GOOD. I like that I choose to drive a Ford, not that I have to!

lenore,
I worked in the parts and service departments at Ford dealerships for over 10 years. I often say, the fact that Fords break helped put my kid through private school. In reality, the reason I got out of the business was I just couldn't take it any longer. It is VERY stressful. People have the right to be pissed about broken vehicles. When you're paying a $500+ monthly car payment and it's sitting in the dealership service department, THAT BLOWS! I felt like all I was doing was putting out fires and the end result was the people weren't even that happy anyway. A lot of the time, all it takes is one bad experience to steer people elsewhere. And there's so much beyond a real broken part. Sometime the service writer misinterprets the customer. The technician can misinterpret the service writer. The technician just flat out gets it wrong. The parts guy gives the tech the wrong part.....blah, blah, blah.
I still say it comes down to luck. I have been lucky. My sister just pulled the lemon law on an '05 Windstar that the dealership could NOT fix under warranty. Ford ended up giving her a brand new '07 for just the cost of license and title transfer.
No problem with your rant. You're being realistic and not acting like an *** (unlike some others can do on forums!). Respect is given where deserved. I wish you all the luck in the future with whatever you choose to drive.

Yes and no, if I was in the market for a heavy duty truck then I would buy a Ford Super Duty without question. I wouldn't even look at anything else. The only question would be which do I need, F250, F350, or the biggest baddest boy on the block, the new F450.
If I were looking for another light duty truck then my answer is no, I wouldn't buy a Ford. Unless the F150 started to get things that the competition has had for the last few years. Little creature comforts like dual zone climate control, auto 4, basically everything that's available in the Expedition should be available in the F150, even if I have to buy a Lariat to get it.

I have the biggest love/hate relationship with my truck. All I know is I would never buy another Ford truck. I love the ride, style, performance, etc. but just too many problems at relatively low mileage. My truck is an '01 with 95k and ive had to replace a slave cylinder, clutch, trans rebuild(due to bearing failure), dead starter, and now a strange, hard to trace misfire under moderate acceleration has recently developed. Not to mention many mysterious creaks and moans I hear coming from the truck at times.
My father also has a 03 ranger with 78k miles that is falling apart as well. Ford sucks lately. Years ago "ford tough" used to mean something. I used to have a buddy with an '85 F150 with the straight 6. That was one solid *** truck.
If I get a truck again, its gonna be a chevy.

As of this minute, no. I judge a company by how it backs its products. My Supercrew has the howling rear axle, distorted windshield that amazing cracked by itself in a garage, warped rotors, back glass leaks rain water, seats stain with tap water, back doors won't latch unless you SLAM them, vibration that comes and goes, driveline thump, hesitation, extremely odd tire wear on the front tires, fadding black exterior plastic parts that are half black and half white, and the entire brake system has been replaced with my money. Per several Ford dealerships, all of the above is normal. Per Fords regional rep, all of the above is normal. I have had Fords with issues like my Bronco. It had 6 transmissions replaced by Ford in the first 16,000 miles. Yep, a headache but Ford stepped up to the plate and did the right thing by standing behind their product. I hear far too many stories from folks in the same boat I'm in- you were dumb enough to buy it- live with it. After 30 years of nothing but Fords, and I buy at least every other year, there probably won't be many more if at all. I am in the market now for a new truck. I am not looking at Fords and don't intend to. Ford has the best engine in the 4.6 but it desparately needs a five or six speed tranny. Ford makes them, you can't have one. Even as an option, you can't have one. The 5.4 3V, mark my words, these engines are doomed to failure. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and will be happy to stand up and say so but these engines have issues and Ford is looking the other way. So going bigger on the engine is not an option. They have better ergononmics than any other truck on the market. The execution of the sum of the parts sucks. Maybe if they railroad Bill Ford and get somebody that has a clue about the automotive marketing and manufacturing but that hasn't happened so far. Anyway, I'm looking, but not at Ford. Too bad, it's kinda like a family member gone bad. Ya love 'em but you just want 'em to be somebody elses problem.
I'd definitely buy another Ford truck, without a doubt. I've been reading several posts on this subject, and I can't believe some of you that say they are cheap and cheaply built. I work for a chevy dealership and if you want to see cheap, look at chevy trucks compared to Ford. And the lineup these days, Ford in my opinion is the way to go. I'd never buy a F150 with a 4.6 or V6 though, I like having power and towing ability. Also after owning 3 Expys, and 2 F150s, I never had a problem with any of them or any leaks. My buddy has a 99 F150 with 180K 5.4 and its still all original, and he beats the hell out of it. Its still going strong!
