5.4 no off idle power??

hey guys i have a 2000 f150 w/ 5.4 and it seems to be very sluggish until it gets up above 3000 rpm i have read that they have something that they are supposed to be like this. Is this true? It has no codes stored or engine light on and i maintain it verry well. Is there anything i can do to wake it up such as an EDGE? It has great power as long as you are on it but has no ***** on take off any suggestions? it seems to be only on take off.

Some gears would get you some significant off the line acceleration. Depending on how big your tires are and how you drive your truck would affect your decision to pick the ratio.

A tuner would help as well. Let you bump the timing for more power all the way around.

Long tube headers/exhaust can help with overall power as well.

I say get a tuner. If that is not enough, or you get the bug, go with gears and then a full exhaust. You'll need the tuner to calibrate the spedo, which is why I recommend that pecking order. Plus, its lower to higher in cost.

Thanks, it has stock tires for now which will be switched to 33's soon and 3.55 LS gears. I drive it pretty hard but i also drive it on the interstate over 1000 miles one way a 2-3 times a year so i'm not sure weather i should gear it. I generally drive around 90-100mph the whole way so i can't really gear it much or i'll most likely kill the motor if i still want to go this speed. I realize it isn't a mustang but i think it should have more low end power than it does. Are all of them sluggish until the rpms get up or is it just mine. It has 76000miles. It has true duel exhaust w/ 2 flowmaster 40 mufflers and no headers. It will barely spin them on take off but it will catch rubber when it shifts into second at WOT. I do plan on getting a programmer and a AEM air intake do you think i will notice considerable gains by doing them?

That right there can hurt low end torque.

Why would that hurt the low end?

I have a '01 Screw with a 5.4 and true dual exhaust. I recently put mufflers back on because I was going deaf and I wanted to regain some lost low-end torque. So I'll have to disagree that your exhaust is making your truck sluggish.
I think your truck not making any power has more to do with your motor being tired. Give it a tune-up. Change your plugs, COPS, oil, oil filter, and fuel filter. I have 3.55 gears with the limited slip and I have enough torque to spin both back tires off the line if there is the smallest bit of dirt or debris on the road. I also have an Edge tuner set on level 2, and an AEM Brute Force intake. However, I don't remember my truck being as sluggish as you are describing.

I have already done a tune up. I think that i found the prob though. The back brake calliper has been hanging up. Today i could actually hear it and feel it when i take off after brakes have been applied. It seems weird though because after it gets going it hauls and no mine does not brake loose off the start. Shouldn't that calliper be stickin constantly? It will on wet roads though pretty good.

Have you cleaned your MAF? Checked all of your coil packs were functioning properly? Usually, a lack of low end is from spark or misfire.

Mine will put down about 4-6 feet of rubber if I floor it from a stop on dry pavement, so I think it's got enough...

Put an X pipe on that exhaust, I had true duals and slapped an X pipe on, and off the line was much better. I didnt believe it untill i did it.

I dunno man, mine does especially good from a good launch. I've always said it does it's best then and usually gets tired around 5000 rpm's. I do have a chip which helped alot. This F'n thing does nothing but squeel tires and still passes people on the freeway very quickly (chip did lots to help this). I have always done preventative maintenance which helps alot too.

No i haven't cheacked the MAF or COP.Does the edge have the ability to cheack these parameters or do i need to hook up an ohmeter? When i got the truck w/ 40000 miles it would spin like what your talkin about but not anymore. I would think the true duels would have to be better than the big stock muffler.Mine runs verry strong right after take off and all the way through rpms.
