AUTOLITE_DOUBLE_PLAT are $4 each....figure around $100 total w/ labor (local shop, not dealer).

Either get the OEM Motorcrafts (ONLY!) from Autozone or your dealer, then take it to the mechanic and have them installed. Figure $75-150 in labor depending on the shop. Plugs will run $35-70 depending on where you buy them.

I spent a little over $3 for the OEM Motorcraft plugs at Advanced Auto Parts tonight.

bah good old copper autolites work fine. those triple platinum snake oil plugs are bs they dont fir any differently as soon as the plag has fired a few times. just my .02
I also just did my plugs myself in my 99 4.6 f150 last week. took about 2 hours to do wasnt all that terrible. I would suggest a swivel joint and several extensions. als while your at it change the plug wires if you milage is near 100k it will save you the headach of doing it later. just do 1 plug and wire at a time so you dont mess up the order.

NGK plugs are excellent for that application. Very inexpensive also...

Actually Platinum is harder to fire than Copper. Platinum however doesnt erode as fast.

Copper is better for performance. Platinum is better for endurance.

I cant say which brand of plugs is properly designed to work in this specific engine.

Exactly. I was about to get some copper plugs because I always had and didn't mind changing them on all my other vehicles (10 mins tops) until I realized that it'll take at least an hour on this truck. Plus being so cheap (less than $3) going with platinums was a no-brainer.
