Need help - F150 started guzzling gas

My 2000 F150 supercab just started guzzling gas all of a sudden. Seems to be running fine except that I only get 250 miles on a tank now instead of the usual 400. Anybody know what this could be? Thanks in advance. It's got the 4.6 V8.

No, the check engine light hasn't come on yet, but I'm expecting it to any day now.

Winter fuel, improper orientation of the IAT, dirty MAF, failing upstream O2 sensor, faulty DPFE, plugged EGR ports (goes along with pinging) and who knows whatelse. I guess wait for that CEL and maybe try some Seafoam...???

Sounds like a dirty air filter - I would try cleaning the MAF Sensor as well.

Change your filter

Clean your MAF sensor

Then pull your negative cable , touch it to the positive cable for a Pram reset - reconnect for learn mode . Or just disconnect both cables if your uncomfortable with touching the 2 together - leave diconnected for 10 minutes or so if you do it this way...

Good Luck

I was thinking about that earlier. I think it's 22 or a 23 gallon tank , most I ever got was 345. That's what 16 or 17 mpg . I have a 4x4 tho and a 5.4L.

Good Luck

disconnect the positive and touch it to the negative.. got that backwards.. if u touch the ground to the positive u will back feed power to everything and burn up alot of wires and PCMs and likely make the battery explode!.

No kidding, I assumed he meant touch them together while disconnected, but wasn't clear enough about it. All you have to do is pull the neg. and flip on the lights for 10 - 15 min. then shut off lights and reconnect the neg. terminal. I use to disconnect the pos., but forgot why I switched.
