4.6 RPM Range

Just a dumb question really. I have a 2002 F-150 X-cab with a 4.6/auto and 3.55 gears. All stock except for a superchip and K&N. So my question is this, do all 4.6's not like to carry power past 3,300 RPM or is this just because I have 3.55 gears and not 3.73's. My truck has lots of power through 3,300 RPM's and revs quickly but just does not make a lot of power past that. It has been like this since new, I thought the superchip might help (and it does in a lot of other area's) but not with this.

That's kindof odd because mine seems to hit the powerband after 3000 rpms. It will cruise through 1000-2000 rpms, then when it hits 3000rpms it seems like it gets a second wind.

(I also have the 4.6 with 3:55's.)

Did it do this before you put your superchip in?

Yes, since new. Nothing wrong with it, just seems odd that most engines seem to come to life in the top of the RPM range where my truck seems to struggle once above 3,500. The superchip helped greatly with shift firmness and throttle response.

the cams and intake manifold on these trucks arent designed to make power past 3500rpm..
