- Gets about the same MPG which means the 4.6 is a pig.

The reason the 5.4 gets piston slap and 4.6's get it too! Is the machining process. Ford does not use TQ plates when they bore and hone their blocks. The block should have heads studs and mains/main studs in and TQ'ed to spec, while boring and honing. My rebuilt 5.4 never had piston slap one bit.

The reason the 4.6 makes more H.P than the 5.4 per C.I is due to the MUSTANG gets the 4.6, not the 5.4. Ford will not exploit the 5.4 like they do the 4.6 due to the MUSTANG. If the MUSTANG only came with the 5.4, then the 4.6 would be gone by now or only be in granma's CROWN VIC like it belongs.

And as for the timing chain failures. I've heard of a ton of timing chain failures and they have all been on 4.6's not 5.4's. I had my timing chains checked on my over 200,000KMS 5.4 and they had only stretched 0.20 which is nothing. And I beat on that engine HARD.

Just remember FORD made the 4.6 1ST, then they made the better 5.4. Learned from their mistakes I think they did!

If the 4.6 is so great then why did FORD decide to build a 5.4 for the FORD GT? DOH!!!!!!!!! That had to hurt!LOL!
umm the windsors have the same thick block and the 8 bolt fly wheel and only the 97-98 model romeo 4.6s' had piston slap.

the 4.6 comes in the same 3v u know... still making my point correct that its not as volume efficient due to starved air intake compared to the 4.6

thats not physically possible to get 21.3mpg and have 430hp.. .. unless u cruise at 50mph.. and are running really lean!

the early model Mark8's and cobra's had an all aluminum 4.6 block made in Teksid that was good for 1400hp

k now i know your just argueing to argue.

292 hp @ 5750 rpm COMPARED to my 300 hp @ 5,000
300 lb.-ft. @ 3950 rpm COMPARED to my 365 @ 3,750

FIRST OFF. if you really wanna get technical..

THE HIGHEST HP PRODUCTION N/A 4.6 FORD HAS MADE TO DATE IS THE 1999/2001 Ford Mustang, Cobra, 4-valve DOHC, 320 hp and 317 ft/lb TRQ

THE HIGHEST HP PRODUCTION N/A 5.4 FORD HAS MADE TO DATE IS THE
2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R, 4-valve DOHC, 385 hp and 385 ft/lb TRQ

why is the 5.4 making more power then the 4.6?

HI!... Both the WINDSOR and ROMEO 4.6's also get piston slap. Read my other post. The slap is not due to engine design, it is due to machining processes. Ever notice that everyone that has a built engine done doesn't have piston slap? The only 4.6 that I know of that has a 8 bolt crank is the cobra. 2-valve 4.6's came with 6 bolt cranks. JMC has a windsor built 4.6 and it has a 6-bolt crank. He had to get a 8 bolt flywheel when he did the 5.4 swap. The Windsor 4.6 is better built than the ROMEO. Less problems with it. This has been proven over and over again.

HI!... WRONG!!!!!! Actually I was cruising at about 70-72MPH and my A/F was at about 14.5-14.7 while doing it. Which is STOICH for cruising speed. It's called volumetric efficiency!!!!!!!!!!!

HI!... The early 4.6 aluminum blocks were only good for about 800H.P if you used ARP hardware. Stock they were good for about 550H.P at the flywheel due to the crap P/F rods. The later COBRA blocks were good for about 1200H.P due to the better MANLEY "H" beam rods Ford used. The "03" and up 5.4 cast iron block is still the strongest modular block out there from the factory. There has been guys making over 2000H.P with those blocks.
