Starts up then dies... 4.0 Exploder

Hey guys, my buddy's 4.0 Exploder with 103K starts up and dies right away if you don't give it gas. There are NO check engine lights whatsoever. He doesn't know squat about cars either. It still dies even after it's warmed up.. any ideas? I asked him if it's ever had a tune-up and he goes, well, I thought they did it everytime they changed the oil.

No idea there Q, it's a Sport model, probably a 99-00. When it gets above 7* outside I'll go and look. Would the year help?

EDIT: It's a 2000.

2000 could still be either. Like the other guys have said, I'd suspect an IAC sticking too, although if it's a 4.0L SOHC, the lower intake gaskets could be leaking on cold start up.

Does it stay running if you hold the gas pedal slightly? If so then IAC. I have changed out 5 in 5 different Ford vehicles in the last 4 years.
