Ford’s short threaded spark plugs – Beware!

I have been advised by my friend who is a mechanic that Ford used short threaded spark plugs in several vehicle models. The spark plug can shoot out of the cylinder! I had him replace a coil pack and spark plug and he let me know the bad news. This Saturday he is replacing the other 7 plugs for about $130.00. He recently had a truck come in for rpair and had to use a Healy coil to repair it. Check your plugs!!!!

It does happen, its not a "short threaded spark plug" rather its a lack of spark plug threads in the head and the fact that the head is Aluminum, here is a link.

However, the odds of it happening are VERY VERY low, just check that your plugs are torqued properly every now and again. If it happens, there is a relatively cheap <$200 kit to repair it, NOT A HELICOIL, but a proper steel insert.

MORE THAN YOU CAN READ IN ONE SITTING ON THIS TOPIC IS RIGHT HERE.

Geez, and to think that just the other day I was reading a magazine in my doctor's office that said president Kenndy got shot in Dallas too. This has been a bad week!

Don't believe everything you here.
it is a giant conspiracey to make Ford look bad.

there is no way of knowing how often this happens but every shop owner i know has repaired several and some have even made tools to make the job easier and faster.
just think this site represents what 60k to 80k people and ford sales 800k to 900k trucks a year so what you see here is roughly 1% to 3% of ford truck owners and how many thread have there been in the last 5 or 6 years?

its is like everything else that is bad, if it dosent happen to you , you just dont know the frustration. As soon as i have time (work is crazy) i am having mine towed to a shop and i am ordering a new truck. time for a change.

btw, i dont think ford is being honest about it and there has to be a repeating pattern of the trucks this happens to. admitting it or letting people know who might have a potential problem would be admitting that there is an issue.

BROTHERDAVE has a good point. Neal, I was just trying to pass along information and did not expect a hard time about it. Yes I used to have more time to search posts before I had twins. Sorry for passing the information along. It will not happen again!
