If you have any doubts, you should be able to go into the shop and they can show you the bent parts in the engine. Should be pretty obvious. I would think if that's the case the engine is toast. That's the same thing that happened on my '05 Chevy Upchucker and the computer prevented the starter from engaging the flywheel as it sensed things were whacked out internally.

Since you wanted to sell this truck to get the F350 Diesel you might want to look at the return you'd get by replacing the engine then selling vs. just selling it "as is" to someone who wants to rebuild as a project...
