And I thought the Ford dealership in Reno, Nevada was bad.

You can buy a rebuilt power steering unit at rockauto.com "A-1 CARDONE Part # 20282" for about $48.00 plus a core charge. The install isn't that hard, takes about an hour+

Ford power steering pumps go out quite often. They last an average of 80,000 to 120,00 miles. I've replaced three on three different Ford cars and trucks over the last five years.

Also buy and install a new belt while you are replacing the power steering pump, if you still have the same one on the truck since 1997.

And yes, too much water will short out the coils. It happened to me. But I did the work myself and my total bill was around $83.00 complete for the coils, with about one and a half hours labor, since I also bought a new spark wire set and plugs and installed them too.

Two (2) Coils are required for your truck and are available for between $39.00 to $78.00 each, depending on the brand, for your truck. Install is a breeze.

If it didn't happen at the same time with the other stuff after washing the motor area, I think I could live with checking everything. It's too coincidental that it went out after I washed it. I hasn't leaked, squeaked or had any other problems. The resevoir is full, so I don't know what the heck it can be. I do see an electrical connection on it in the Haynes manual, so maybe something shorted out. I don't know.

I just paid 468 at the dealer to have new plugs put in and 3 coils replaced. I brought them the coils because they wanted $90 a piece for them. They charged 259 for the tune up and 89.95 for diagnosis on the engine missing and the same amount to diag. the power steering. All they said about the power steering is there is no line pressure.

I am so seeing red right now. I know I could have done the job myself for so much less, but I have a bad habit of breaking things when I do (accidentally).

Oh well.

My truck has coil over plugs so each spark plug has it's own coil. It's more involved to change the plugs out on this truck.

I think the PS Pump is a pain too.

Well, they replaced 3 COP's and put in new plugs. The power steering is still out and now it is whining, and it wasn't before. Tomorrow, I'll be putting in a new PS pump. Wish me luck!

if it's not too late try this:

you most likely got water the ps tank and water wont compress. use a turkey baster and suck out as much ps fluid as you can then replace with fresh mercon 3 run the engine and repeat. worth a try and wont cost too much.

jbrew where the heck are you getting COPs for 12 bucks?!?!?

That wasn't very nice -

Thats what it works out to if you buy the kit = $130

You Motorcraft Platinums with the kit which are normaly around $40 or so.

130 -40 divided by 8 = actually less than $12 per COP.

The ultimate tune up , very cheap.

Maybe some one else will tell yuh - or search forums .

Type "Misfire" - This only work when you search within this forum - Look for post from jbrew for the link.

LOL , I though later that you might have just been in shock..

Did yuh get them? If so , make sure you send Kevin(owner) the exact plug numbers you want - I would call to. Everything else turnes out to be awesome, except they'll ship you the wrong plugs unless you make sure they know.

Don't ask me why - I have no clue, but that's the only prob you might have.
