Oil filter

Are Motorcraft oil filters FL820S & MFL820 the same filter? Will the MFL820 fit the 2006 5.4.?

You need the FL-820S. The S stands for silicone anti-drainback valve. Without it and with an overhead cam engine, you will get very noisy starts due to no oil at the top of the engine. And excessive wear. Get the FL-820S.

I always thought the 820S was the short version of the 820, therefore the "s" designation. I believe all motorcrafts have the silicone anti-drainback valve. Both will fit depending on clearance space allowed in the vehicle.

Put the oil filter on your truck that's listed in the owners manual.

Read here.

The FL-820 and FL820S are exactly the same size. The S is for silicone anti-drainback valve.
