Warranty Coverage
Hi Everyone
I was wondering if any of you have ever had a issue with your warranty work being done on your vehicle? I have a 05 XLT 5.4L and have alway taken it to the dealer for service and every time I get there the service guy goes out to my truck and pops the hood and checks my air cleaner. So last time I was there I asked -do I need to replace the air cleaner or is it alright? His rely was I dont know if you need to replace your air cleaner I pop the hood to look for modification done to you truck including air cleaners. I asked I was thinking about adding K&N air cleaner he said Not good Idea it could VOID YOUR WARRANY COVERAGE! So Now I say to you all what in the hek do I do with the Edge, K&N cold air intake and E-fans???

They are checking to see if the symptoms you have may be caused by some aftermarket equipment. e.g. if you over-oil your k&n filter, and the MAF sensor goes bad, they can claim the filter caused it, and the warranty will not cover the replacement. If your radiator springs a leak and you have electric fans, the may try to claim that the vibration from the fans caused it. According to the Magnusson-Moss warranty act, your entire warranty is not void, but the dealer must prove that the bad/broken parts were directly caused by the aftermarket equipment. A K&N isn't going to cause the stereo to go bad, but an aftermarket amp could cause blown speakers.... make sense?
If you're concerned with the integrity of your warranty, then don't modify the truck at all, and if you do, return it to stock before taking it to any dealership. If you're not concerned with your warranty, or don't mind a good battle, then by all means, mod away!
For me, I have electric fans and a K&N drop-in. My 6/100 warranty just expired three weeks ago, and I never once had an issue with the dealership working on it under warranty.
