Mine has a slight tick, but no knocking. These new motors tend to be little noisier than the old ones. I would take it back to the dealer and let them look at it.

my has some ticking, which should only be the fuel injectors which is by no means a knock. If it is knocking I would definitely take it to the dealer.

Does it only do it at idle? Does it go away as soon as you speed the engine up over 1000 RPM? If so its the cam phasers. They are the "sprockets" on the end of each cam that control the variable cam timing. There is a TSB out on them and it is a warranty item. I had to have both of mine done and now the engine is dead quiet at idle. You have to really strain to hear the light injector tick but the loud tick is gone. Another way to tell is stand by either front wheelwell and you can hear it better there if its the cam phasers.

At about how many miles does this noise making take place? Mine runs so smooth and quiet sometimes I have to look at the tach to see if its running.

Mine started on one side at about 6k miles, had the other side done at 12k miles. It really can do it anytime from day one. The later 05's on seem to have been corrected from the factory with the updated part. Once updated, they are a very quiet engine.

Yup,later '05's are quiter. Mine is a July 05 build. I have to strain to hear the injectors. The cam phasers are deally quiet(19K miles on truck).

Have an 05 with a similar problem. Loud "Ticking" and intermittent knock at idle. Do you have the number on the TSB.

as far as these tsb's do you just take your truck back to ford and get them to look at it? and is this warranty only coverage or any ford product? so i guess the extended service contract is a good idea? considering i bought this 05 with 39000 miles on it had a great price though
